Alan Q. Radke, M.D., M.P.H
As DHS State Medical Director, Dr. Radke is involved in policy development and management with the disability divisions; provider oversight with the licensing division and consultation with the guardianship office. He provides liaison with the stakeholders of the public mental health system.
As Chief Medical Officer for State Operated Services (SOS), Dr. Radke is responsible for the provision of medical and clinical oversight to the State Operated Servicesâ€™ system of care for the area of the Department that provides direct services to people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chemical dependency, and traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Radke has over 25 years of experience, holds a Medical Doctor degree from the University Of Minnesota School Of Medicine and a Master degree in Public Health from the University Of Minnesota School Of Public Health. Dr. Radke was on active duty with the United States Army for 10 years, served his residency in psychiatry and fellowship in consultation/liaison psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and is retired from the U.S. Army Reserves. Mid career Dr. Radke earned his Physician Executive credentials from the American College of Physician Executives. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Radke began his service with State Operated Services in 1989. Before his initial appointment as Department of Human Services State Medical Director in 1996, he served as Clinical Director, and then Medical Director of Willmar Regional Treatment Center and Medical Director at the Anoka-Metro Regional Treatment Center. Dr. Radke left Minnesota for a three year appointment as the State Medical Director for the Hawaii Department of Health. He returned to Minnesota in the summer of 2005.
In his currently position as State Medical Director, Dr. Radke is a member of the DHS Chemical and Mental Health Services Executive Committee. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Radke is a member of the SOS Governing Board and SOS Executive Committee. He also serves as Chair of the SOS Medical Executive Committee.
Nationally, Dr. Radke is a member of the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors Medical Directors' Council and serves as co-chair of the Council. Dr. Radke is the Council liaison to the American Association of Community Psychiatrists (AACP) and a board member of the AACP. He is also a member of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) Technical Expert Panel and a member of The Joint Commission Professional/Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) for hospitals.
