Stephanie Le Melle, M.D.

Stephanie Le Melle, M.D.Dr. Le Melle is currently the Clinical Director of New York State Psychiatric Institute and an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University. She received her MD from Mt Sinai School of Medicine and her MS in Molecular Biology from Hunter College CUNY. Dr. Le Melle did a residency in psychiatry at Columbia University / New York State Psychiatric Institute and then completed the Public Psychiatry Fellowship also at Columbia.

Dr. Le Melle’s areas of interest are public psychiatry and the treatment and care of people with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI), particularly people with schizophrenia. She was the Assistant Director of the Washington Heights Community Service for 4 years and continues to work as a part time clinician in this program. Dr. Le Melle is a consultant and teacher for the Columbia University HIV and Mental Health Training Project that trains clinicians how to address HIV prevention and treatment of people with SPMI. She is also the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Pathways to housing and works to promote the “Housing First Model” that was developed by Pathways to Housing. Dr. Le Melle is involved with the Mac Arthur Foundation's Network on Mandated Community Treatment and is particularly interested in how housing is used as leverage to engage people in psychiatric treatment.
