Brinda Krishnan, M.D.
Originally born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Brinda Krishnan completed her psychiatry residency training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. After graduating, she joined the faculty as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in OHSU's Public Psychiatry Program from 2004-2007. She then worked as the Medical Director of Residential Services for Cascadia Behavioral healthcare; a community based health care organization focused on treating mental illness, addictions, physical health issues, poverty and homelessness.
She has served on the board of the AACP since 2007, first in the position of member at large, then as Area 7 rep and currently as the editor of the Community Psychiatry newsletter.
Dr. Krishnan currently works at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia serving the college age population. She collaborates and consults with Mason's Student Health Services to provide services based on the medical home model. She participates as a consultant to staff and faculty and as a supervisor in the psychology training program at CAPS.
Dr. Krishnan has published papers related to culturally appropriate mental health services and systems of care in psychiatry. She has also served on the board of directors for SAWERA (South Asian Women's Empowerment and Resource Alliance), a non-profit organization providing culturally appropriate services to south Asian victims of domestic violence.
Her areas of expertise include early psychosis intervention, cultural psychiatry and primary care and behavioral health integration. Dr. Krishnan has extensive experience with disadvantaged, minority and chronically mentally ill patients. She is currently working as a consultant to a federal grant to add psychiatric services to the primary care services being offered at the Jeannie Schmidt free clinic located in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
